Buran Ghati Pass Trek



Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh seems only to have its state capital (Shimla town) as the primary tourist attraction, but if one checks out closely, then, multiple small and medium trek routes can be found. One of such best treks in the heart of Shimla district, is Buran Ghati.Located in Himachal Pradesh also called Burando pass, Buran Ghati pass trek is a route connecting the Pabbar valley of Shimla to Baspa valley of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh.It is well acquired by the thick and dense forests of the oaks and pines, the extensive green meadows, the sharp edges at high altitudes, the snow-clad peaks all around, the small streams and brooks with some quaint villages are some of the niche sights that you will come across the entire trek.Buran Ghati Pass trek can be the most thrilling yet enjoyable trek. Experienced hikers or trekkers can do it quite easily but it will be a bit challenging for the beginners and newbies, as some small but uphill boulder patches might create hurdles.

Points to note:

Pre-requisites for the trek:

1. Keeping in mind of your own health and fitness level , you should Acclimatize well before movement

2. All necessary equipment from tent to rope is needed, additional gaiters are needed to prevent the entering of snow into the shoes.

3. Professional Guide is strongly recommended

 

Quick itinerary: 7 days 6 nights

Start from Shimla and drive till Jangik (~150 km), Jangik to Dayara Thatch (~7.7 kms). Then from Dayara proceed towards Litham(~5.6kms). From Litham go towards Chandranahan Lake (~8.3km) and back to Litham. Then proceed from Litham to Dunda (~4.3kms). From Dunda walk towards Manerang (~9kms). Then finally from Manerang to Barua and drive back to Shimla.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 01:Shimla To Jagnik

Shimla - Rohru : 115kms , Rohru to Chirgaon: 15kms , Chirgaon to Tangu:20 kms and Tonglu to Janglik: 20kms

Jagnik is the base camp for Buran Ghati trek. It is approx 160 km from Shimla.During this drive you will enjoy magnificent scenic beautywithRohru with Pabbar river flowing alongside the route. While passing many Himalayan hamlets you will witness the archaic culture and architecture of Gahrwal. You will have to travel for approximately 2 hours off road to reachDiude. Enjoy lunch at Diude (last ATM point also will be Rohru). After reaching Janglik , enjoy hot dinner and have a tight sleep

Day 02:Janglik to Dayara

Wake up with a beautiful view ofJanglik valley and enjoy your breakfast with mother nature. Today we will experience the most scenic day of the trek and will climb the hills between Dayara meadows. We will ascend through the forest cover of Oak and Pine for an hour and will step onto a ledge from where the spectacular views of Janglik, Tonglu and other nearby villages will be visible. After half an hour rest we will climb small hillocks for better acclimatization and rest for the day at the camp site.

Day 03: Dayara to Litham

We will start the day early exploring the meadows . After breakfast we wull start trek from Dayara to Litham which is a gentle ascent . This entire trek is full of tourists and meadows as well as streams . After crossing the meadows we will trek towards Guna Pass, post that Silver birch tress will come . From the meadows the trail descends down to Chndranahan stream and will arrive at Litham. Enjoy the Chandranahan Lake view . Have your dinner and take rest.

Day 04: Visit to Chndranahan Lake (mainly today we will acclimatize ourselves)

After having breakfast we will make our way towards Channahan Lake. Its roughly about 6km and we will get lot of opportunities to witness nature from up-close. The glacier lake Channahan is a glacier lake, in order to reach there we have to cross a stream and walk majorly uphill. After spending sometime around the lakewe will head towards Litham. We should start early from the lake so that we can reach Litham before lunch as its a steep descent to Litham.

Day 05: Litham to Dhunda –

To reach Dhunda from Litham its approximately 2.5 hours uphill walk. Here we can witness themighty Dhauladhar range. The trail takes a sharp ascent and continuesalong banks of Pabbar river. The climb towards Dundra is through a well defined trail and its surrounded by snow-clad mountains. Night stay in Dhunda camp site.

Day 06:Dhunda to Munirang –

This will be the most strenuous day to trek , we have to cover about 11-12 kms both through ascending and descending routes. From Dunda we have to cross some bouldery stretches and slowly move towards the base of the pass.After reaching the base, it will take about an hour to go to the top of the pass.

After reaching the top of the pass enjoy the spellbound views that awaits u, then descend through snow line and forest and enjoy river side camp and retreat for the night.

Day 07:Munirang to Barua village and drive back to Shimla

Today we will descend quickly through coniferous trees, after an hour of trek through descending trails we will reach a stream that meets Barua Khud and it will lead us towards Barua village. From there we will drive back to Shimla by road and reach before diner.
