Sandakphu, being the highest peak of West Bengal, with altitude of 3636 m, offers view of some of the world's tallest peaks like Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Lhotse. One can have the best view of Sleeping Buddha from here. The name Sandakphu means 'Height of poison plant'. It got its name from poisonous plants that grow near the top.The trekking trail to Sandakphu lies along the international border of India and Nepal.
​Sandakphu trek is one of the most popular treks in West Bengal. It takes you through Singalila National park which is a home for unique red pandas. And If you are lucky, you can also spot one. It also offers sight of blooming rhododendrons in the months of April to May. The Nature here is at its best with the picturesque beauty of Rhododendrons along the trail surrounded by the Himalayan mountains.

Trek Details
Day 1: NJP to Maneybhanjan (Night stay at Chitrey)
NJP to Maneybhanjan is almost 85 km and it takes about 4 hrs. to reach there. Chitrey, which is 3km from Maneybhanjan can be reached by trekking through steep upward trail or by land rover (optional).
Day 2: Chitrey to Tonglu  
Chitrey to Tonglu is a total 8km trek uphill.
Day 3: Tonglu to Kalipokhri  
It is total 15 km trek with first 2 km downhill trek, then moderate up down trek upto Gairibas. From Gairibas to Kayakatta , it is a 3km uphill trek and rest up down moderate trek.
Day 4: Kalipokhri to Sandakphu  
Total 6.5 km trek. From Kalipokhri to Bhikeybhanjan, the road is moderate (up-down). From Bhikeybhanjan to Sandakphu the journey is upward.
Day 5: Sandakphu to Gurdum   
Total 12km downhill trek.
Day 6: Gurdum to Timburey
Total 3km downhill trek.
Day 7: Timburey to NJP (via Srikhola)          
First 3km downhill. Then transfer to NJP by car (About 4-5 hrs)

Best Time to Visit: Throughout the year except monsoon even of monsoon has its own charm.
